Plywood chair-low by Charles Eames 1945 classic
The Bauhaus designers Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen already experimented in 1938/39 with three-dimensional plywood veneers. The basic idea was adapted form to the human anatomy. Here, a high level of comfort should arise without elaborate upholstery. Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen won with their chair s.c. "Organic Chair" - competition. Because of the technical problems at manufacturing, they decided to separate the seat and back, which led to the creation of the Plywood Chair in 1945 and Plywood Group shortly thereafter.
