Charles Rennie Mackintosh (* 7. Juni 1868 in Glasgow; † 10. Dezember 1928 in London) was a Scottish architect, craftsman, designer, graphic artist and painter. He was one of the leading figures in the Art Nouveau movement of the late 19th century and gave important impetus to modern design. Mackintosh is therefore considered an influential precursor of Modern Art.

His most important work was also his first major project - a building for the Glasgow School of Art. Other remarkable designs by Mackintosh include Scotland Street School in Glasgow and the Hill House in Helensburgh, for which he also designed the famous Hiil House Chair. As part of the contract work for Miss Cranston, he designed not only the building but also the internal furnishings for the Willow tea rooms, including the famous Willow Chair.

At the beginning of the 20th century he moved to France,  due to the recession, where he realized only  few projects. He died in 1928 in age of 60 years.
