(* 20. August 1910  in Kirkkonummi, Finland as the son of the well-known architect Eliel Saarinen.  † September 1, 1961, Michigan). In 1923 the family emigrated to the USA. After studying sculpture in Paris and then studying architecture in Yale from 1930 to 1934. His sweeping free-standing constructions are best known. In 1948 he won the competition for the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis. (the mighty bow was completed only after Eero Saarinen's death, 1963).

In 1940, he participated with Charles Eames in the well-known "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" competition, in which the two designers with their design of the Organic Chairs received the first prize. A few years later, as part of the Pedestal Collection, the flowing forms of the popular tulip chair (Tulip chair) with its wide, circular base. Few years later was created also the famous Tulip table.
